I am a big believer in exposing kids to aviation as much as you can. When I was asked to bring a class full of toddlers to the local airport to teach them about airplanes, I didn’t doubt for a second ! I booked the plane (without planning to actually fly it), took some time off from work and organised a visit to our local airport Kortrijk-Wevelgem (EBKT).
We drove all toddlers in three cars to the hangar, I pulled out the lovely Cessna and explained them how an airplane flies !
One by one, I put them in the cockpit, donned the headset and named them “Welcome Captain !”. So funny !
Also the teacher was keen to dry-fly the Cessna !
At the airport, we arranged for a visit to the airport police and the firemen: they provided a fantastic spectacle with water and sounds!
In the meanwhile a private jet landed. When the passengers were gone in big fat limos, the captain invited the class onto the apron to visit the jet. Wow: fantastic !
We had the toddler sitting in the lush leather chairs one by one, while I admired the cockpit ;-). The kids received candy and cookies from the very friendly staff. Thanks !
